Our trip back from Summer Solstice in NM…

I have been meaning to post a few pictures from our road trip back from Summer Solstice in New Mexico and am finally getting to it now.  We found an amazing place to stay for a few nights that was exactly what we were looking for.

I had a brutal (very intensive)work project that needed to be completed by July 3 and Hari Rai was acclimating back into everyday life after a pretty intense Summer Solstice.  For those of you who don’t know what I am talking about when I mention Summer Solstice, go here: http://www.3ho.org/events/yoga-retreat2.html to find out more…
Anyway…I wanted to find a place where we could hide out for a few days to work and relax and was able to find a motel that was designed and built by John Lautner (an apprentice of Frank Lloyd Wrights) and it worked out perfectly.  The added bonus was that the owner also has a place called the Beat Hotel which is only 2 miles away and it has a pool and wireless internet.  During the day when it was hot we would hang out there and work and swim.
Check out a few pics:

Here is Hari Rai in the kitchenette…notice how spacious the room looks when in fact it is quite small.  The room got an amazing amount of natural light and I really liked the private outdoor garden and patio attached to every room.

Here is me and a closer look at the outdoor garden…check out the clear furniture…it also added to the openness and transparency of the room.

This is a picture of the Lautner or Desert Springs Motel from the outside.  Notice how solid and sheltered it looks to handle the desert challenging climate…yet it blends very well with the natural environment with it’s low profile.

And here is a picture of the pool inside of the Beat Hotel which we had all to ourselves for a few days.  The water is from a natural spring and is about 80 degrees and does not need any chlorine to keep it clean.

Check out:http://www.dhsbeathotel.com/hotel.html for more info on the Beat Hotel or http://www.lautnermotel.com/ for more info on the Lautner.  Have fun!

“I am a Khalsa Man…”

Khala Mens Camp004.JPG

Just got back from an amazing weekend in Canada at the Sunshine Coast.  This picture is taken on the ferry between Vancouver and the Sunshine Coast.  I am on the left, my dharma brother Sat Atma is next to me in the middle and Sat Hanuman is next to him on the far right.   There were about 50 men that attended for a weekend of meditation, yoga, chanting, swimming, martial arts, sharing circles, and just bro-ing down.  There were great lectures given by a few great spiritual yogi men.  We discussed relationships, foods that are good for men, living a dharmic life style, integrating spirituallity into our daily lives, and much, much more.

I made some great contacts with brothers that are working in ecology and sustainablility that I plan to follow up with.  I also connected with a life coach named Guru John who Hari Rai (my wife) and I are planning to work with to get things in order for pursuing a Master’s in Organic Architecture at U of O.

More pictures to follow…
